how is central sleep apnea treated?

February 21st, 2011

sleep test says non obstuctive sa. is this central sa. im on cpap. 4th mask. i cant get any pressure to go thru my nose but it has alot on my mouth. i use my nose only to breathe when i sleep. any advice.

Central sleep apnea is when the brain does not tell the body to breath. They treat it with bipapST. The machine will take a breath for you if you do not. Cpap will not work

Has anyone out there had experience with sleep apnea,CPAP or surgery for sleep apnea?? Please share..?

February 14th, 2011

My husband has been recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and not tolerating his cpap mask. He is physically and mentally exhausted from sleep deprivation and is considering a surgery called GAHM ,genioglossus advancement with hyoid myotomy. Anyone have this done and what were the outcomes ? Thanks

I’ve been on a CPAP for several years now. It took me a few weeks to get used to it but it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. The surgery is only about 50% effective as in it only works for about 50% of those who get the surgery done. The group who are even potential candidates for the surgery is small. Work with your provider to try different masks.

what other alternatives r there for sleep apnea cpap?

February 14th, 2011

my nasil nostril area is narrow. i cant get enough air with a mask. i got them to raise the presure again. noluck. i breathe only thru my nose when i sleep. had a deviated septum n turbinates removed. it did nothing. went thru insomnia pills . nothing. what else can i try.

Have you tried a full face mask (Resmed Quattro or Respironics Comfort Gel Full)? They are similar to the nasal masks except that they also cover your mouth. They allow you to breathe through your mouth and still get the benefits of CPAP.

Has anyone heard of a different treatment for people who suffer with sleep apnea?

February 14th, 2011

Someone I work with heard about this new type of treatment that treats sleep apnea besides the CPAP that is a machine that continually keeps air flowing tthrough a mask that is worn. This new treatment, if there is such a thing is something else. This was second hand info so I’m not sure if this is right.

Is it the BiPap?

obstructive sleep apnea surgery is it worth the risks?

February 14th, 2011

Has any one had the surgery for obstructive sleep apnea. Were thay cut your soft pallet, your uvula, and tonsils. If you have had it or know some one that has. Did it help. And what was the recovery. Did it change your voice. And any think els I should know before I go get cut up.

Many family members have had the surgery and now there apnea is worse because of the scar tissue. Much pain. Use CPAP, no pain, no scar tissue, Surgery only works if you know exactly where the obstruction is.

whats the cure for central sleep apnea?

February 14th, 2011

on my 4th mask. cpap. sleep study says non obstructive. do i have central sa. when i put my mask on my nose i cant get much pressure. do not know why. my sinus area x ray says its ok. looking for answers. tired all the time.

You can treat central sleep apnea with medicine or with CPAP. However, I know that some people with nasal masks have some problems.

Can’t you try full face mask? Or, are you really sure that you have the right pressure? Maybe you need to take the sleep test again.

As for the medicine, I recommend to speak with your doctor, because some of the drugs can harm your sleep and your health.
