Florida Dental Sleep Disorders Opens New Vero Beach Location Giving Sleep Apnea Patients a Way to “Scrap Your CPAP”

Vero Beach, FL (PRWEB) August 30, 2012

Kenneth A. Mogell , DMD is pleased to announce the opening of the new Florida Dental Sleep Disorders office in Vero Beach with practice limited to treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea using oral appliance therapy. The new Indian River County office is located at 3735 11th Circle, Suite 105. This office, conveniently located across from Indian River Medical Center, will allow obstructive sleep apnea patients living in Vero Beach and surrounding communities access to oral appliance therapy solutions for snoring and sleep apnea.

Dr. Mogell has extensive training in treating patients with jaw joint disorders and facial pain and has been helping these patients for almost 20 years. Assisting patients suffering from sleep disordered breathing is a natural extension of his experience and makes him uniquely qualified to treat snoring and sleep apnea with comprehensive, non-surgical oral appliance therapy.

“I realized that many of my patients were forced to drive very long distances to receive oral appliance treatment after finding they were unable to tolerate CPAP” said Dr. Mogell. “I look forward to offering patients in Vero Beach and surrounding communities a comfortable, non-invasive option for treating their obstructive sleep apnea.”

Dr. Mogell works closely with area sleep physicians, cardiologists and internal medicine physicians. He feels that “Communicating patient progress to all of the physicians involved in patient care is key and I am very excited to be working closely with Indian River County sleep specialists.”

Obstructive sleep apnea is a life threatening condition that goes undetected in the majority of sufferers. Patients with obstructive sleep apnea repeatedly have dangerous pauses of breathing during sleep which deprives the body of oxygen. Untreated sleep apnea is linked to heart disease, stroke and other serious medical conditions. Patients also experience lifestyle issues such as extreme daytime sleepiness, memory issues and increased risk of motor vehicle and other accidents.

Dental sleep medicine treats obstructive sleep apnea using an oral appliance, a custom fabricated mouthpiece that is designed to reposition the jaw so that the airway cannot become blocked during sleep. “CPAP is the gold standard for managing sleep apnea but about half of patients prescribed CPAP find they cannot tolerate sleeping with the device. Studies have shown that oral appliances are effective and well tolerated by most patients,” explained Dr. Mogell.

Dr. Kenneth A. Mogell graduated from the University of Florida College of Dentistry and received his undergraduate degree in Nursing from Florida State University. Although he attended both universities Dr. Mogell is a Seminole at heart and enjoys traveling to Tallahassee to attend football games. He is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Practice at the Vero Beach location will be limited to treatment of sleep apnea and snoring. Dr. Mogell’s Boca Raton office offers a full range of dental care, treatment of TMJ (jaw joint) dysfunction and dental sleep medicine.
