Mattress Delivery Company, Online Bed Quilt, Comments On In-Home Sleep Disorder Test

Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) February 26, 2013

On February 26, mattress delivery company Online Bed Quilt comments on how some people are opting to take at-home sleep diagnostic tests and the authenticity of data collected.

According to The Tennessean, diagnosing serious sleep disorders is usually a lengthy process where patients visit a sleep lab and are monitored by doctors and scientists overnight. Now, there are tests administered at home that have been gaining popularity around the nation, reports The Tennessean.

The Tennessean reports that rather than spending the night in a sleep clinic, doctors go directly to the patient’s house and set them up for the night with monitors. These at-home tests are more convenient and accessible for the patient.

“Sleep tests are used to determine what type of disorder a person has and what the underlying issues may be,” Justin Maas, a representative from mattress delivery store Online Bed Quilt, commented. “It’s definitely more convenient for patients to use their own bed. Sometimes patients sleep differently in hospital beds. These at-home tests allow patients to fall sleep exactly as they would each night because they are in their own beds.”

The Tennessean reports that many doctors are skeptical. Though the at-home tests could cost $ 900 less than they would in the hospital, home tests are not as complex and thorough as tests done in sleep labs, reports The Tennessean.

“People that have serious sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnea might benefit by spending the extra money to go to a sleep clinic,” Maas said. “Obstructive sleep apnea is linked to obesity, diabetes and heart attacks. If left untreated, it can actually be fatal. If you believe you might be suffering from this disorder, you should probably go to a regular sleep clinic, even if it might be a bit of an inconvenience.”

Sleep960 Enters into Discussions with CPAP Horizon Project to Link Sleep Patient Screening, Diagnostics and Therapy Platforms with a CPAP Management Application

Sleep960 Enters into Discussions with CPAP Horizon Project to Link Sleep Patient Screening, Diagnostics and Therapy Platforms with a CPAP Management Application

Fort Myers, FL (PRWEB) January 31, 2013

Signature Sleep Services (dba Sleep960) announced today it has entered into discussions with CPAP Horizon Project to improve the overall management of the sleep apnea patient after they have been referred to HME providers. There are many elements to the sleep patients complete care cycle that utilize specialized software applications and medical devices. For the most part these components do not communicate with each other and therefore do not share data between platforms.

Sleep960 has taken steps towards a more collective interface with the introduction of SleepScreener, a web based application that effectively screens and electronically refers sleep disorder patients to facilities licensed to access the application. It also links participating health care providers together and allows these practices to cross refer among them. An important aspect of the application is that it includes a secure Application Programming Interface available to 3rd party technologies to facilitate the exchange of patient information in multiple formats with other related platforms.

SleepScreener also interfaces with the ZWare Home Sleep Testing (HST) Management Platform, which allows patient demographics and insurance information to be imported automatically and, thereby, eliminating redundant data entry. This program then manages the entire process of setting up a number of different HST devices, downloading the data, interpreting the results and generating reports. ZWare also has the ability to continue the care cycle by managing the patient’s therapy options though e-prescribing and CPAP inventory control.

This sets the stage for the final component of the cycle for many OSA patients – ongoing CPAP therapy. CPAP Horizon Project has developed a specialized cloud application that allows the patient to better manage their own CPAP therapy. Called “Manage My C-PAP” this comprehensive app provides patients the ability to interact with their HME provider on a level previously unavailable. Manage My C-PAP gives patients one convenient place to maintain relevant records, complete virtual checkups, track their therapy, order replacement supplies, get information about Sleep Apnea and CPAP therapy, get sleep coaching, and to get support from their CPAP equipment provider when they need it.

“CPAP Horizon Project is truly dedicated to improving the apnea patient’s ability to better manage the many aspects of CPAP therapy,” said Michael Clark, VP of Sales and Business Development. “Their new management app will go a long way to increase the patient’s control of their own therapy and at the same time provide HME suppliers a fantastic tool to improve their own bottom line. This also allows us to flow information down the chain into this app and successfully complete the last segment of the patient’s complete care cycle.”

“We are very excited about working with Sleep960 and couldn’t be happier about the strength this relationship brings to both parties,” said Doug Hudiburg, CPAP Horizon Project Founder, “There are very few companies in the sleep disorders market who are putting the patient in the center and paying attention to the ‘big picture’ of the complete care cycle… we are happy that Sleep960 is leading the way and including us in their plans.”

The Manage My CPAP application is presently in final beta testing and will be officially released in mid-February.

What do you do if you have allergies and are using a cipap machine?

February 21st, 2013

I have a cipap machine for my sleep apnea and I also had a nasal mask for it. When I got it I forgot to mention that I had allergies and its causing me to breathe out of my mouth. What should I do about this? There a cheaper way of fixing this, because a full face mask would cost me 300 dollers.
I tried using it the other day and I couldn’t because it was hard to breathe and was losing lot of the pressure, because I couldn’t breathe out from my nose.
The other thing I noticed was my cipap machine has a humidifier and when its activiated its even harder to breathe cause it does trigger my allergies and makes my nose very congested. What do I do about that?

I have the same porblem, here’s what I do: take a benedryl-D every night, and I have an Ionic Breeze in my bedroom–they aren’t cheap but other HEPA type air filters require filter replacement & they get pricey after awhile, also, you can try an electrostatic air filter that you put in the air intake of your central heat/ac–if you have that.

I am trying to find any groups that suport people who have been diagnosed with Central Pontine Myelinolysis?

February 14th, 2013

Two years ago my brother was admitted to the hospital for an electrolyte imbalance caused by many weeks of vomitting and dehydration. His sodium level on his admittance to the hospital was 96 and within a 36 hour time frame was increased to over 120. As a result of his treatment he now suffers from Central Pontine Mylenosis (CPM). He has struggled to learn to walk and talk again. He experiences issues with tremors that prevent him from writing, typing driving and feeding himself. He recently was also diagnosed with central sleep apnea as a direct result of CPM.

I am trying to find a support group for survivors of CPM, or anyone who has experienced this condition personally or know of someone who has CPM.

I have searched the web for support groups until my eyes are crossed.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Has he gone to a sleep lab? I can only help you chip away the sleep thing. I use one of those CPAP thing nightly, now I am 61 years old and was diagnosed at 60. I feel like I am in my 40’s! True sleep is wonderful, my whole adult life I never had a good night’s sleep! I also had a knee twitch that kept my brain from going into REM stage of sleep. Thats where the eyes dart around, its like perfect sleep time, anyway I lived without it for 40+ years.

I hated going to the lab and did not enjoy the whole idea of it. The idea of having something poked up my noise was not comforting! I HATED IT! BUT MY WIFE MADE ME GO !!!!

The lab was tolerable, but the results are unbelieveable!

THE DARN MACHINE WORKS MIRACLES! SO … LIKE A SAVED SINNER, I AM HERE TO SPREAD THE WORD, TELL THE WORLD WHERE THEIR REDEMPTION MAY BE FOUND ( WELL MAYBE A LITTLE PUSHY )!

WISH YOU LUCK ON ALL OF YOUR PROBLEMS, BREATHING THROUGH THE NIGHT SERIOUSLY HAS RE-STARTED MY WHOLE PERSONAL LIFE!

HAVE A GOOD DAY.

APS
